This Saturday night, April 26, the Sunshine Coast Boxing Club (SCBC) presents the War On The Shore 2 amateur boxing event at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre. There is a very good card arranged featuring three boxers from the host club along with many more strong boxers who are coming to Gibsons looking for fights.
Club coach and City Boxing Champ Randy Hollett will spare with Canadian Cruiserweight champion Ken Huber from Kamloops.
“This will be a fast-paced display of boxing skill at a high level,” said SCBC founder Rick Shannon.
Lazar Williams of the host club and a karate veteran will box Geoff Clark of Kelowna.
In a masters’ bout, a special category for boxers over 40 years of age, Gibsons’ Graham Porter will battle Mission’s Nick Csaszar.
In the main event, Marcus Baptiste, a durable fighter with knockout power from Sechelt who now lives and trains in Vancouver, will square off against the wiry and undefeated Aaron McKindrick of Kelowna.
Clubs from Gibsons, Kamloops, Kelowna, Victoria, Vancouver and Powell River will be represented at the fights.
Included in the boxers are recent new comers to Canada from Australia and the Ukraine.
1984 Los Angeles Olympic boxing bronze medalist Dale Walters will be on hand as a referee and special guest of the SCBC.
Tickets are $20, available at the door, which opens at 6:30 with boxing starting at 7 p.m.
