In women's soccer league action last week, Blazers posted another win, 4-2 over Sita's, with two goals apiece from Astrid Bradbury and Ashley Taylor.
The Ya Yas steam-rolled Fusion 9-1 with goals from Angela Muir, Eliza August, Sara Agnew and Courtney Denman.
In men's play, Ridgepoint Bruins got back to their winning ways as well, in a 4-1 win over the Pender Harbour Bananas. Goals for Bruins came from Mike Husband and company while Adam Vanderword hit for the Bananas.
The two heavyweights in the men's league squared off last weekend, after splitting wins in their first two meetings and remaining tied in points for months. The teams fielded high calibre players with the likes of Dan Muir, Junior Dixon, Ken Campbell and Fumi Takahashi leaving other players feeling as though they had wandered onto a professional pitch and would be better suited cheering from the sideline. Both teams stepped it up though, and all five goals in the Wolves 3-2 win over CPU were scored off of place kicks. Rick Timothy, Jedidiah Wensvene, Kurt Vernon, Takahashi and Dixon all dropped balls into the box, which were then converted.
CPU fullback Pat Braithwaite opened the scoring as he rammed into the Wolves breakwater defence. Wolves countered with a pair, the first smacked in from Adam August, followed by a tight angled header by Dixon. Takahashi then dropped one onto the foot of a CPU forward to tie it up, followed by a header from Muir to put the Wolves ahead.
Wolves keeper 'Big Tony' Johnson got some help as a CPU forward helped a place kick over the net, while CPU goalie Glynn 'Jumping Jack Flash' Cody caught cannonballs with help from his posts.
Defenders stepped it up as well as Martin Blackwell shadowed Muir, and Wolves' defender John Robson rewarded a head-down CPU defender with a check into a mud puddle.
Referee Sean 'let em play' Cullen kept a lid on the potential potboiler, with help from his finger-wagging linesman, former teacher Jim Gray.
