The bantam 'A' rep Blues played two more tiering games last weekend as the local squad continues to prepare for the regular season.
Saturday saw Sunshine Coast travel to Abbotsford for a contest against the Hawks. It was a tight-checking affair with the first goal coming with only four minutes remaining in the second period, as Abbotsford scored for a 1-0 lead.
Abbotsford scored early in the third period to go up 2-0, but Sunshine Coast battled back as Kyle Horsman converted a nice pass from Aaron Allan to cut the lead to 2-1. Sunshine Coast continued to take the game to Abbotsford, for about four minutes, and then the wheels fell off. Abbotsford dominated the last three minutes of the game, scoring two more goals for a 4-1 win.
Sunshine Coast's second game of the weekend was in Gibsons, against the Mission A2 team. After a scoreless first period, Sunshine Coast finally got on the board when Tyler Starnes fed the puck to Josh Macey, whose slapshot found the back of the net.
In the third period, Sunshine Coast continued the scoring, first from Aaron, with assists to Kyle, then Tyler Hansen, with assist to Josh Macey. Robert Dixon's slapshot from the point found the back of the net off a feed from Tyler Starnes. Tyler, with his second of the game, rounded off the scoring, with assists to Aaron and Kyle in the 5-0 win.
Brad Kohuch played very well for Sunshine Coast, laying big body checks on the Mission players.
Tiering round continues this weekend, with the bantams playing at Harry Jerome on Saturday against North Vancouver, and Sunday at home in Gibsons versus Seafair.
Midget BluesOn Saturday night in Gibsons, the midget Blues won 4-2 over a fast skating Squamish team.
Scoring for the Blues were Brady Bjornson with two goals and one assist while Dustin Robinson and Grant Mayers each added a single. Ryley Dempster played very well in goal.
On Sunday the Blues played a hard-fought game, defeating North Delta 4-2. Dustin scored a pair, Brady had a goal and one assist, and Jesse Ostrosky added one goal. Marc Chabot and Dagan Benner also picked up assists. Trevor Garrett had a great game in the net.
The Blues entertain West Vancouver on Satur-day. Face-off is 5:30 p.m. at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre.
