Like Redwings' goalie Dominic Hasek and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, George 'The Iron Laddie' Cuthbertson has blossomed over 40, made CPU forwards look like chumps and his own squad look like champs, in a match that should've been 27-nil. Sean Baines and Trevor Cockfield held the pass and cleared the rebounds, while CPU's Roman Horat's on-the-run, outside-of-the-foot volley gave the game its only goal. Bananas edged Chiefs, with Chiefs getting goals from 'Flyin' Ryan Paul, Kellen Feshchuk and Keith Johnson pushing up pitch, while Bananas Captain Rich Massullo saw to the scoring for their side.
Apparently a retirement of putting for birdie in a plaid cap and knicker socks didn't hold enough excitement for Wolves' fiery forward, Kevin August, who came out kicking to put a pair in the net in the Wolves' 6-2 win over Ridgepoint. At future Wolves' home games, Guinness Record Book and paramedics will be on standby as August throws caution and WCB coverage to the wind, attempting to become the first 52 year old to bicycle kick a ball into a net.
B-Peps and Ya Yas finally faced off in this much-anticipated women's match. These two women's contenders had been crushing all comers, circling and taunting each other at grocery stores and retail outlets all week in advance of their showdown. This round, however, went to Ya Yas as they won their muddy match of trench warfare on a goal from Kari Dixon. It was a tough week for the B-Peps, who then stormed out to extinguish Blazers in the first half with goals from newbies Emily Fenton, Cailin Parry and Alexa Dornbierer.
However, when your uncle is hockey legend Phil Esposito and your dad is Canadian Football legend Condridge Holloway, chances are when you step out onto a soccer pitch you have a few goals in your genes and up your sleeve. Jasmine 'Hurricane' Hollaway gave Blazers a hat trick to put them on par with the B-Peps, while another hat trick from Ashley Taylor handcuffed any hopes of a B-Peps' comeback, as she hit the net from a range outside that of a Smith and Wesson. 'Jackie O' Ostrovski's strike made it a lucky seven. Blazers then tied Mayhem on a pair from Jen Bridgeman.
