The Sunshine Coast atom division Ducks completed a fantastic season-opening tournament by winning the silver medal in Mission on the Nov. 4 weekend.
The Ducks opened the tournament with a 5-2 win over the Mission Terminators. Gavin Strom led the way with two goals and was named MVP.
Next up was a showdown with the North Delta Demons. The Ducks fell behind 3-1, but came all the way back with stunning goals from Kaden Walkey and Tyler Graham. The game finished in a well-deserved tie. Cassidy Sinnott was named MVP.Sunday dawned with the Ducks needing to win both their games to have a shot at the final.
First up was the Mission Stars. This was a spirited affair with the Ducks scoring two late goals to pull out a hard-fought win. Slade Watts was named MVP.
The Chilliwack Jr. Bruins were up next for the Ducks. A tight game was broken up when Tyler scored a beautiful short-handed goal and the Ducks cruised from there, pulling away to win 7-2. This win guaranteed the Ducks a spot in the playoffs and saw Jessica Poulsen win MVP.
The Ducks then watched a terrific game between the Terminators and the Demons. The game went back and forth, and when Mission tied the game with 10 seconds left, the Ducks were off to the finals based on points and head-to-head competition.
The Ducks faced a well-rested Aldergrove Bruins team in the finals. The Ducks kept the game scoreless behind some terrific goaltending by Tristen Sweet until late in the second period, but began to run out of gas as Aldergrove pulled away and won 4-0.
