Athletes strike gold in Langley

Masters track and field athlete Don Benson of Keats Island won gold medals in all eight of his events in the 70 to 75 year age division at the Langley Mustangs Invitational track and field meet June 18.

Masters track and field athlete Don Benson of Keats Island won gold medals in all eight of his events in the 70 to 75 year age division at the Langley Mustangs Invitational track and field meet June 18.

Medals were awarded to Benson in the 100, 200 and 1,500 metres, long jump, discus, javelin, shot put and hammer throw.

Don's son Mark of Gibsons won gold medals in long jump and javelin, silver in 200 m and 1,500 m and bronze in the discus in the 50 to 55 age bracket.

Gibsons female athlete Judi Cable earned gold in the 800 m, silver in shot put and javelin and bronze in discus in the 50 to 55 age bracket.

The Bensons are off to Edmonton the last week of July to represent Canada in the World Masters pentathlon and weight pentathlon.
