As the days of summer come to an end, the Sunshine Coast Youth Soccer Association (SCYSA) has been preparing for the upcoming season and the return of the game.
This year the association continues to build on the support of volunteers. Without this help, the SCYSA may not be able to function at its present level of participation, as no doubt the fees for registering would be much higher.
"The focus of the association this year is to gain better accountability over its equipment, increase the knowledge base of our coaches, further engage the community with our objectives and continue making the game a fun and safe place for all who participate in the game," said association president Norm Blair.
Equipment is an ongoing cost for the association and maintaining it as much as possible for reuse each year provides funding for other areas of service. An area that the association is committed to is the ability to provide grassroots coaching skills. This has an up-front cost, but in the long run will keep funds local.
Part of the process is also to excite the membership, and this year the Vancouver Whitecaps coaching staff will be on hand Sept. 17 and 18 to bring skill training sessions to all divisions in the association. Watch for more information.
With more than 1,000 players, 90-plus teams and a division of ages representing the Sunshine Coast in a higher level of play, the SCYSA board of directors are looking forward to another great year. To assist the financial requirements, a new sponsorship program for the association is now underway.
