All-star season starts

The all-star baseball season in Gibsons began in earnest last weekend. The AA peewee team played three games at Unwin Park in Newton, coming home with a record of 1-1-1. On Saturday, Gibsons tied Tsawwassen 4-4 and lost to Ridge Meadows 9-3.

On Saturday, Gibsons tied Tsawwassen 4-4 and lost to Ridge Meadows 9-3. On Sunday, Gibsons bounced back to beat Newton 4-3 in an extra inning.

Gibsons used the tournament as a warm-up for the summer season. According to the coaching staff, pitching and defence looked sharp.

The peewee teams begins the AA season with two home games on Saturday, July 8 and Sunday, July 9 at Brothers Field with games both days at 11:30 a.m.

The single A team played a season opener double header against Powell River at Brothers Park.

Gibsons won one and lost one in a pair of close contests. The play was punctuated with impressive pitching and some close calls as players stole bases.

The team went to Oliver for three days early this week for a development camp at the Big League Experience Camp.Work is in order for the midget all-stars. Getting over the hump would describe last weekend's round robin Boulonger Tournament in Cloverdale. Gibsons tied Cloverdale 8-8 in game one. Cam Graham pitched four innings to earn MVP.

Gibsons lost game two to Vancouver due to time limit. The game was called after five innings with Vancouver leading 8-7. Dave Moran hit a pair of home runs including a grand slam and was named gamed MVP.

In game three, Gibsons dropped a 9-4 decision to Tsawwassen. Catcher James Pomfret threw two men out trying to steal second base, but was forced from the game after the third inning due to muscle pains. He was named game MVP.

In the semifinal, Gibsons fell 8-7 in extra innings to Tsawwassen again to bring an end to their tournament.

Gary Lamb had a few clutch singles and made some key catches in centre field. In the seventh and eighth innings he also went in to catcher for Dave, who was pitching. Game MVPs included Gary, Dave, James and Cam.
