The Sechelt Indian Band teams came out kickingin 2012 with wins all round last weekend as the adult soccer leagues returned to the pitch after the winter break.
The Sechelt Chiefs rolled over Halfmoon Bay 5-1 and that was without strikers Matt 'Gee, I scored again' Joe and Scott Johnson. Halfmoon Bay's lone strike came from Greg Stinson.
At Ted Dixon Field, the Wolves tore into Sita FC for a 7-1 win.
Adam Nanson continued his goal-a-game production for Sita's while Dana Dixon left his goaltending mitts in his bag to start the Wolves goal frenzy. Follow up scoring came from 'Flyin' Ryan Paul, Rick Timothy, Dan Muir, and a hat trick from Jeremy Hudson, one for each of the team's Jeremys.
Halfmoon Bay returned to the pitch on Tuesday night feeling ornery from their defeat, and bested first place contender Bruins 4-2, with goals from newcomers Paul Musson, Colin Bradley with a pair, and backline Warhorse Mike Cowie booting one in.
With the Pender Harbour Bananas deciding to take the week off, this reporter had a chance to interview prolific striker and rep coach Rod 'Rodnaldo' Kammerle.
When asked if the Bananas could continue 2011's winning ways into 2012, Kammerle considered the question. "The Bananas aren't just about winning - it's more of a philosophy," he said.
When asked to explain that philosophy, Kammerle fist-bumped teammate Dennis Tasic and replied, "Kickin' butt, and balls in the net. Boo yah!"
In women's action, Ya Yas edged Sita's Sistahs 4-2 with a pair from Kari Dixon and singles from Flyin' Alvina Paul and Miranda Joe.
Blazers extended their winning streak into 2012 with a 7-1 win over an under-womaned Source for Sports, and are on course to be the first adult team ever to win every league game. To any women's team that can stop this from happening, Sita's Spag and Suds have offered a bounty of an extra large pizza.
