The Sunshine Coast's U18 girls Adrenaline rep soccer team put on a dynamic show of skill and determination on the Labour Day long weekend to win their first championship as a team - the West Coast Cup in Pitt Meadows.
Confidence came early with a 6-0 win over a physically tough host team.
Games two and three were hard fought with Adrenaline coming out on top 2-1 and 1-0.
The fourth game, and battle for first place, brought out the best in the Adrenaline. An impenetrable defensive core, dominant ball possession through the midfield and relentless pressure in the offensive zone led to a 2-0 win and the championship.
Adrenaline went unbeaten in four games, scored 11 goals with only one against and logged three shutouts. Most importantly, relationships were strengthened and they became a team. Game MVP medals (as selected by the opposing team coaches) were awarded to Sophie Garmulewicz, Maryah Paul, Zoey Schutz and Angie Cantarutti. Adrenaline keeper Jennifer Robertson received team MVP for the tournament.
Formed only three months ago, this group has been practising throughout the summer in preparation for the start of the upcoming regular season this Sunday, Sept. 8.
This pre-season tournament saw the team bond and learn to play together in a competitive environment. It was also a chance for the coaches to get a look at strengths and weaknesses. The coaches would like to humbly report that the Adrenaline possess far more strengths than weaknesses and the season promises to be a very successful and exciting one.

Special thanks go out to the Adrenaline parents for their support on the sidelines and putting the time and finances into keeping their daughters active at this high level of play. Special thanks also to players Ali and Jenna for lending the Adrenaline their skill and enthusiasm at this tournament.
House league
The 2013/14 Sunshine Coast Youth Soccer Association house league season got underway last weekend as nearly 600 kids aged six to 18 got out for their first kicks. The U7s (teams A through F) got together at Hackett Park where allhad a great time learning new skills such as throw-insand ball handling. Even though not all were able to attend the first weekend and some teams were short players, some of the kids joined the opposing team to even things out before enjoying a great 30-minute, four-on-four game.
