SC Spirit of Excellence will take a group of local teens ages 10 to 16 to a exciting surf and stand up paddle board camp with Catherine Bruhwiler who just recently won the 2013 Canadian National Female Surf Championship in Tofino.
Participants will leave the Coast on Aug. 11 and return Aug. 14.
Bruhwiler is a life-long Tofino surfer and Paddle Canada SUP (Stand Up
Paddleboard) instructor who teaches paddle boarding full time through her
business Tofino Paddle Surf.
When she is not teaching surfing for her brothers or paddle boarding she will be found travelling and surfing with her kids. Her teen children both ranked in the top two in their category as well.
The Bruhwiler family helped put the small Vancouver Island town of Tofino on the international surf map. Growing up on the exposed west coast, the Bruhwilers took advantage of the fact that "there are always waves." The family of pro surfers including Catherine's brothers Sepp and Raph, has seen the town explode as Canada's premiere surf destination. Now she is at the standup forefront, not only introducing SUP paddling to the surf lineups the right way, but also tapping the sport's limitless touring potential in the island-pocked region through her Tofino Paddle Surf outfit.
The SC Spirit of Excellence group will camp at the sandy beach at Mackenzie Beach Resort next to the famous Bruhwiler Surf School. Surfers will also be instructed on ocean safety, surfing techniques, wave knowledge etc.! Free time can be spent on fun hikes, beach volleyball, swimming and beach games. Boards, paddles, life jackets and wet suits are provided.
Early registration with signed waivers mandatory. Call 604-886-6591 for more information or register at www.scsoe.ca.
