Elphinstone and West Howe Sound have a pair of candidates each who will be running to be directors on the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) board, following the closure of the nomination period for local government elections.

Following nomination deadline day, Roberts Creek is the electoral area with the most candidates running for Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) director.

Three previously undeclared candidates joined the race for the six seats on Sechelt council just ahead of the close of nominations on Sept. 14, bringing the field to 13.

Four newly-announced candidates were added to the council hopefuls list in Gibsons as nominations closed Sept. 14, bringing the total to eight.

Updated Sept. 21: Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure officials in Victoria have confirmed for Coast Reporter that some campaign signs in the Sechelt area were removed earlier this week "that were blocking sight lines for drivers.

After two directors were acclaimed in 2014, the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) will see races in all but one of the rural areas. The only incumbent running is Lorne Lewis in Area E.

With the local government election nomination deadline past, several groups are finalizing plans for candidate forums. The Elphinstone Community Association is hosting an all-candidates meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.

Three candidates have emerged in Area A, aiming to take the place of Frank Mauro, outgoing Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) director.
