Candidate forum schedule filling up

With the local government election nomination deadline past, several groups are finalizing plans for candidate forums.

The Elphinstone Community Association is hosting an all-candidates meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at Frank West Hall for those running in Area E and for school board.

A group of Sechelt residents is organizing and event it’s calling “A Forum For Us, By Us,” designed to attract younger voters.

The forum is scheduled for Sept. 27 at 7:30 at Chatelech Secondary in Sechelt, and according to the event’s Facebook listing, the format will involve introductory remarks from the candidates followed by a chance for audience members to “tell them about our concerns” and an open Q&A.

The Gibsons Chamber of Commerce has scheduled its all-candidates forum for Oct. 9 at Elphinstone Secondary.

Doors will open at 5:30 with the forum to run from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 

It will be broadcast live on Coast TV, Cable 10 on the Eastlink system.

The Sechelt Chamber of Commerce is also planning an all-candidates forum.

It will be held at the Chatelech Secondary theatre Oct. 11 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Sunshine Coast Community Services (SCCSS), the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation, Sunshine Coast Affordable Housing Society and One Straw Society are holding two all-candidates meetings focused on housing.

The first will be in Sechelt at the Sechelt Indian Band Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. The second will be in Gibsons on Thursday, Oct. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gibsons Public Market (473 Gower Point Road).

The Roberts Creek Community Association has also announced an all-candidates meeting which will be held Oct. 11 at the Community Hall starting at 7 p.m.
