It’s been three months since a fire damaged their offices at 5-682 Gibsons Way and with cleanup complete, the Salvation Army Sunshine Coast Ministries will be returning to business as usual on Monday.

Plans are in the works for police officers to start riding school buses to keep an eye out for drivers who pass buses that have stopped to pick up children, said Staff Sgt. Poppy Hallam at the Jan. 16 policing and public safety committee meeting.

Nominations are now open for the Business Excellence Awards Sunshine Coast (BEASC). The awards celebrate outstanding business successes on the Southern Sunshine Coast and are hosted by the Sechelt, Gibsons, and Pender Harbour Chambers of Commerce.

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Jan. 13 to 20: • On Jan. 17, police attended a flipped single-vehicle incident on Highway 101 near Narrows Road, Madeira Park.

After passing first to third reading at the council meeting on Jan. 16, City of Powell River moved closer to amending its traffic bylaw to permit operation of low-speed electric vehicles (LSEVs) on city streets.

Another blow for homeowners in Sechelt’s Seawatch neighbourhood. Sunshine Coast RCMP have confirmed they’re investigating “several complaints about possible break and enters at a number of unoccupied residences in the 6600 block of Gale Avenue North.
