Volunteers are needed to help with the 2020 Homeless Count in Gibsons, Roberts Creek, and Sechelt.

Following the 2018 Report on Homeless Counts in B.C., homeless counts are taking place in communities across the province in 2020. They provide important information on the estimated number, key demographics and service provision needs of those experiencing homelessness.

Volunteering involves attending a training session and conducting a brief anonymous survey with people who are experiencing homelessness during the count.

The count takes place on March 6 and training will be on Feb. 19 at the Sechelt Hospital boardroom (2:30 to 4 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m.).

Organizers are looking for people who are compassionate, accepting, and comfortable with one-on-one conversations; have a friendly, non-judgmental attitude and a good sense of humour; are 19 or older and younger than 70 (to meet insurance requirements).

They are also looking for one or two hairdressers to donate a bit of their time on March 6.
