What do you do when you can't get to the local grocery store to purchase basic food supplies? The recent unusual Sunshine Coast weather probably had many of us taking inventory of kitchen shelves and pantries to see how soon the cupboards would be bare.

If you had read or heard Robin Wheeler talk about her latest book, Food Security for the Faint of Heart, you would have been well prepared to wait out the inclement weather. Sechelt Public Library will host a presentation by Wheeler on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Food Security for the Faint of Heart has been called the Coles Notes version for keeping your larder full. Wheeler's presentation will discuss good emergency foods, water collection, working co-operatively and other issues. Techniques that many will remember, like freezing and canning, will be revisited as will some less familiar options for storing food. Wheeler is the founder of the One Straw Society and operates the Sustainable Living Arts School - both on the Sunshine Coast. Her presentation style is casual, informed and enthusiastic and will be sure to generate discussion and questions.
