Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for July 29 to Aug. 1:

• Overnight on July 29, a vandal used a permanent marker to deface the wooden doors of a building in the 900 block of Gibsons Way.

• On July 29, police witnessed a vehicle northbound on the Langdale bypass travelling more than 40 km over the posted speed limit. Police used radar to confirm the excessive speeding and pulled the vehicle over on North Road.

The driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

 • Sometime since mid-July, a thief stole three custom copper coloured lamp shades from outside a residence in the 300 block of Pratt Road in Gibsons. The lamp shades are described as Tiffany-style and multi-coloured in brown, pink, blue and off-white. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266 and reference file 14-5196.

 • On July 30, a possible impaired driver was reported eastbound on Highway 101 in Roberts Creek as the vehicle was seen driving under the speed limit and appeared to have difficulty staying in its lane. The vehicle was located in Gibsons and police spoke with the owner who advised that his son, who is a new driver and unfamiliar with the vehicle, had been driving.

• Late on July 30, a resident in the 6300 block Williams Place in Sechelt, reported a prowler after seeing someone wearing a skeleton mask peering through her window. The suspect, who was wearing a full skeleton costume, fled on foot and was witnessed by another resident on Cascade Crescent.

• Overnight on July 31, a thief broke into a vehicle parked in the 5700 block of Teredo Street in Sechelt, apparently by using a garden ornament to unlock the door. The thief stole a number of items from the vehicle, including a 15-inch silver MacBook Pro laptop in a black tote bag, a Makita circular saw, small gold metal LED flashlight, Bushnell lever focus binoculars, Mastercraft hand grinder with cut-off blades, pancake style Porter Cable compressor with hose and tire attachment, two power window motors for a Ford Windstar and assorted Ryobi and Stanley hand tools. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 14-5229.

• On July 31, police observed two vehicles that appeared to be involved in a motor vehicle incident in the 5800 block of Highway 101 in Davis Bay.

The first vehicle, which was properly parked parallel to the highway, had a second vehicle in a parked position against the back driver's side quarter panel. While police conducted traffic control around the second vehicle, which was encroaching the roadway, the driver of the second vehicle arrived.

The driver advised she had parked her vehicle across the highway from the first vehicle and left it running and in gear while she ran over to the near-by fruit stand. The vehicle apparently began to move forward and nudged a curb, which caused it to turn left and into the side of the vehicle parked on the other side of the road. Both vehicles sustained some damage.

The driver of the running vehicle was issued a violation ticket for having an unsecured motor vehicle. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

• Sometime in the last two weeks, a thief stole a child's battery-operated Kawasaki Quad from a property in the 6300 block of Samron Road in Sechelt. The quad is described as black with red seat, handlebars and mirrors and was in good condition. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 14-5258.

• Sometime in the last month, thieves stole four, blue 45-gallon barrels of marked diesel from a business in the 5800 block of Sechelt Inlet Road. It appears the thieves tampered with a gate to render it unlockable. The file is still under investigation.
