Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for June 15 to 22: Between June 14 and 15, a vandal smashed out a window of a vehicle parked in the 4500 block of Highway 101. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle.

Between June 14 and 15, a vandal smashed out a window of a vehicle parked in the 4500 block of Highway 101. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle. Anyone with any information about the rash of vandalism occurring in the Sechelt area is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

A three-vehicle accident occurred near Davis Bay Road after a southbound pick-up truck crossed the double solid line and struck the rear of a northbound vehicle. The pick-up truck continued driving south in the northbound lane, forcing a second vehicle into the northside ditch in order to avoid a head-on collision. The driver of the pick-up truck finally corrected and pulled over safely. Fortunately, no one was injured. The at-fault driver admitted to blacking out and possibly falling asleep at the wheel. He was issued a violation ticket for crossing a double solid line.

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the 5800 block of Cowrie Street in Sechelt when a westbound vehicle was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting a female crossing the road on a skateboard. The female was treated on scene by paramedics and taken to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment of some injuries.

On June 16, a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way reported a shoplifter who was witnessed stealing a large variety of items. The suspect was apprehended by staff after she left the business with the stolen goods and was detained until police arrived. The suspect was arrested and is facing a change of theft under $5,000.

A single-vehicle occurred occurred near the intersection of Cochrane Rd and Trueman Road after the vehicle lost control and ended up in a ditch. The driver and one passenger showed varying signs of intoxication, but no one was injured in the incident. The driver was issued a violation ticket for driving contrary to restrictions, and the damaged vehicle had to be towed.

Early on June 18, a resident of the 8100 block of Westwood Road was awakened by noises and caught a group of youth breaking into his vehicle. The resident chased the youth away, but they returned a little while later and entered a second unlocked vehicle and stole some tools. The resident noticed a light on in his neighbour's vehicle, and it is believed the culprits broke into that vehicle, too.

Between June 17 and 18, a thief targeted several vehicles in the 8000 blocks of Alderwood, Northwood, Southwood and the 8100 block of Cedarwood. The thief stole a couple of purses, a wallet, a pink Worth T-ball bat, a couple of pairs of sunglasses, some small change, and an MP3 player. It is believed all of the cars were left unlocked.

On June 19, a homeowner in the 1800 block of Ocean Beach Esplanade woke to discover vandals had damaged or stolen a variety of house and garden ornaments. Lawn ornaments were broken, lights were ripped down, an address post was stolen and a railing was damaged.

A witness reported seeing a male holding what appeared to be a firearm in the 800 block of Kiwanis Way. Police attended the address, which was vacant and insecure, and located a silver air pellet gun as well as a container of pellets. The owner of the pellet gun was later located, and spoken to about the hazards of carrying around such an item. He advised he'd been shooting crows, but gave permission to police for the pellet gun to be destroyed.

On June 20, police attended a break and enter to a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way. The thief or thieves smashed a glass sliding door to gain entry and stole an undisclosed amount of athletic wear. Police will be checking surveillance footage from a nearby business for possible suspects.
