Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Nov. 9 to Nov. 15:

* Overnight on Nov. 9, suspected thieves broke into a property in the 5600 block of Sechelt Inlet Crescent and stole two, 150-foot long rolls of wire and a black plastic tool box containing an assortment of electrical and mechanical hand tools, levels and squares.

Early on Nov. 10, a resident in the 2600 block of Sylvan Drive was awakened by noises in her carport which turned out to be a bear trying to break into a locked fridge. The bear climbed onto a car hood and fell between the wall and the vehicle, upsetting the bear. The bear caused some minor damage to the vehicle before managing to get away from the scene.

Overnight on Nov. 11, a thief gained entry into an unlocked vehicle parked in the 5900 block of Skookumchuk Road and stole some change, a convertible pillow-blanket, and a stuffed bear. This is a reminder to residents to properly secure their vehicles and to remove all belongings.

A police officer stopped a vehicle in near Inlet Avenue and Mermaid Street after witnessing it make a sharp turn onto Inlet, cutting off two vehicles in the process. The driver, who showed signs of intoxication, admitted to having had several alcoholic drinks prior to driving, and failed two roadside alcohol-screening tests. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Sometime between Nov. 11 and 12, a thief stole a locked car from the 800 block of Kiwanis Way. On Nov. 13, the vehicle was recovered near the power lines at Gilmour Road. The ignition and gears had been tampered with, but there was no other damage.

A two-vehicle collision occurred at Teredo Street and Trail Avenue after a southbound vehicle pulled out in front of a westbound vehicle. The westbound vehicle attempted to swerve to avoid a collision, but there was not enough distance between the two vehicles. No injuries were reported. The southbound driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to yield from a stop.

Between Oct. 28 and Nov. 13, suspected thieves stole a large amount of crusher dust from an address in the 5900 block of Leaning Tree Road. Tire tracks at the scene indicate a large truck was used to remove the material.

A single-vehicle collision occurred on Brooks Road near Truman Road after a vehicle lost control and struck a large rock. Both the driver and passenger sustained non-life threatening injuries. The driver, who exhibited signs of intoxication, admitted to consuming alcohol. The file is still under investigation.

Late on Nov. 12, a thief attempted to steal a vehicle parked in the 5500 block of Highway 101 by tampering with the steering wheel and ignition. The thief also tampered with the trunk and passenger key holes. Nothing was stolen.

At approximately 6 p.m. on Nov. 14, a woman interrupted several teenage males in her vehicle in an attempted theft of/from her vehicle at the Kiwanis Care Home in Gibsons. The owner had left her keys in the car when she stopped briefly to drop off groceries. This is a reminder to residents to properly secure their vehicles, even when making brief stops.
