Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following this week:

On Aug. 7 RCMP noticed a vehicle driving in the 1200 block of Gower Point Road in Gibsons without proper working tail lights. The officer stopped the vehicle and upon approach, noticed the smell of marijuana and alcohol.

The "N" driver, who did not have an "N" displayed and had too many passengers with him, admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving. The driver also had open alcohol inside the vehicle. After a roadside alcohol-screening test, the driver was issued a 12-hour driving suspension and his vehicle was impounded.

The driver, whose driver's licence was seized, also received two violation tickets for driving contrary to restrictions and a notice and order to repair his tail lights before driving again.

The alcohol was poured out and a small amount of marijuana was seized for destruction.

Between Aug. 5 and 6, a vandal damaged plants at a residence in the 200 block of Glassford Road and stuffed grass, dirt and debris through an lowered window of a vehicle parked on the street.

Between Aug. 3 and 7, vandals cut the locks off of two tractor trailers that were stored in the 1000 block Seamount Way. It does not appear the vandals gained entry into the trailers and nothing appears to have been stolen.

On Aug. 8, witnesses reported a female suspect dumping several items, including a bag of garbage, on private property and in the bushes in the 13600 block of Highway 101. One witness followed the suspect until police were able to pull the suspect's vehicle over. The suspect was issued a violation ticket for deposit litter under the Environment Management Act.

Sometime since July 20, a thief broke into a residence in the 6400 block of Stockwell Road and stole a Colt .357 Magnum handgun. The gun had been kept in a safe; no other valuables in the house were stolen.

On Aug. 10, during a Counter Attack road check, an officer stopped a vehicle and noticed the smell of alcohol on the driver's breath. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol within the hour and provided two breath samples for a roadside alcohol-screening test that resulted in a 'warn' reading. The driver was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was towed home.

Early on Aug. 12, an RCMP officer witnessed a scooter being operated erratically in the westbound lane of Gibsons Way near Payne Road. The officer followed the scooter and pulled it over on Henry Road.

The driver advised he'd had alcohol shortly before getting on his scooter and submitted to a roadside alcohol-screening test, which resulted in a 'warn' reading. The driver was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and was permitted to walk his scooter home.

On Aug. 14, a two-vehicle collision occurred in the southbound lane of Highway 101 near Derby Road after the first vehicle stopped behind a left-turning vehicle was rear-ended by a second vehicle. Minor damage was reported to the vehicles. The driver of the second vehicle admitted he had been adjusting his air-conditioning at the time of the incident. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

On Aug. 15, a witness reported a male driver attempting to parallel park his vehicle in an inadequate spot on Cowrie Street in Sechelt, colliding several times into the vehicles behind and in front of him in the process. The male left the scene with his vehicle pressed up against the vehicle behind him.

While the attending officer spoke to witnesses, the driver returned to the scene and advised he did not realize he had collided with the other vehicles or that he should have left his information behind for the other drivers in case of damage.

Both owners of the affected vehicles arrived on scene and after determining there was little or no damage to their vehicle, drove away. The driver of the offending vehicle then attempted to move his vehicle ahead and drove into a light standard. The officer determined there were no impairment or health issues with this driver, but has requested a review of the driver's licence due to age.
