The Town of Gibsons is requesting input on 12 critical topics for the future of the Town.
Residents are invited to weigh in, because the Town's official community plan review committee is developing plans and policies together in this council-approved process to update the OCP.
A video, available at youtu.be/FJzJo9iaTlM, has been published regarding the project to date and the upcoming opportunities for public input.
In the past months, initial research and the input of more than 100 residents and business owners was gathered through a community meeting and a questionnaire. A summary of this input is available at: www.gibsons.ca/images/stories/officialcommunityplan/2013%2012%2020%20Gibsons%20OCP%20Phase%201%20Report_FINAL.pdf.
The Town is now drafting policy directions on:
Refining the Town's vision and goals
Land use changes and growth management
Economic development (including food related economic development)
Sustainable infrastructure to improve the Town's financial sustainability
Housing that meets everyone's needs
Enhancing the form and character of development
Marine environment and harbour uses
Protecting the Gibsons aquifer
Valuing and protecting our natural assets
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change including sea-level rise
Addressing social needs and community well-being
Supporting arts, culture and heritage.
A community meeting has been set from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on March 10 and 11 at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre. Residents can also complete an online questionnaire on a draft vision and goals, which will be available at www.gibsons.ca from March 10 to 31. Residents can also review the policy directions discussion guide, which will be available online between March 10 and 31.
