A man suspected of assaulting a worker at the Gospel Rock development in Gibsons on Tuesday morning has approached the police and says he was assaulted first, Sunshine Coast RCMP told Coast Reporter Oct. 15.

Police were dispatched to the 900 block of Chaster Road, the location of Greenlane Homes’ Touchstone development, at 10:50 a.m. on Oct. 13 following a report that a man had been assaulted at his jobsite.

The altercation happened after the alleged victim confronted a man who was ripping signage off fencing at the worksite, police said at the time.

A witness photographed the incident and RCMP sought the public’s help in identifying the suspect using those images.

Two days later, on Oct. 15, the suspect approached the RCMP to report he had been assaulted first, Const. Karen Whitby said.

The suspect is not in custody and an investigation is ongoing, she said.
