Cliff Gilker Park in Roberts Creek remained closed Friday due to a hazardous tree.

On Oct. 21, the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) notified the public that a tree became caught over the main access road to the park.

“Due to the proximity of this tree to live power lines, the SCRD is engaging a qualified contractor to facilitate the tree removal,” Aidan Buckley, the SCRD’s manager of communications, said in an update on Oct. 22.

While the park and all its trails are closed for safety reasons, people have still been visiting the area and parking their vehicles in front of the main access gate – blocking staff access. Contractors must be able to access the tree with their equipment in order to remove it. The SCRD asks the public to stay away from the area.

The SCRD will provide updates.
