Two incumbents back in the race

Two rural school trustees are running for the position again.

Two rural school trustees are running for the position again.

Lori Dixon, currently representing Rural Area 2 (Sunshine Coast Regional District's areas D, E and F and the Sechelt Indian Government District) has filed papers to repeat the job for another term.

Dixon, a passionate advocate for children, is proud of the Indian Band's Parent Advisory Committee she helped set up to allow Band parents to get more involved in their schools.

Dixon was instrumental in getting a motion passed at Tuesday's school board meeting that urges the provincial government to ask the parties to the current teachers' strike to come back to the negotiating table.

Greg Russell, who also represents Rural Area 2 on the school board, will also seek reelection. As of press time, Russell had not filed his papers.

Russell is a resident of Roberts Creek. The deadline to file is 4 p.m. today (Oct. 14).

Other contenders for trustee are newcomer Ken Sinnott, seeking the nomination from Gibsons. Long-time trustee Pat Pratt, who is not seeking reelection for health reasons, is vacating that position.

The present chair of the board, Joe Brooks, and returning trustee Dave Mewhort have both filed to run for another term.

Another present trustee for Rural Area 2, Diana Eldred, is also letting her name stand for another term. And present SCRD director from Halfmoon Bay, John Marion has indicated his intention to run for trustee.
