A trailer was gutted by fire at the Gibsons RV Park Monday afternoon.

The Gibsons fire department was called to the blaze at 2:50 p.m. Feb. 25 at the park located on Gilmour Road.

When firefighters arrived, the eight-metre trailer was fully involved.

"No one was at home at the time of the fire," said fire Chief Bob Stevens. "Once we got water on it, it didn't take very long to put out - I'd say probably three minutes after we arrived. It was a pretty routine type of a call."

Stevens said the cause is still under investigation, but it is unlikely a cause will be determined due to the amount of destruction.

"It's probably going to end up being undetermined," he said.

Resident Dave Philley was the first person alerted to the fire.

He said he was just getting out of the shower when he saw and smelled the smoke.

"I got dressed as quickly as I could, ran outside to the trailer, opened up the door and yelled to see if anyone was inside," he said. "I then ran and alerted the neighbours beside the trailer and then called 911. I was concerned about the nearby propane tanks, but 911 was excellent and the fire department was there really quickly."

Philley said the owner of the RV Park owned the trailer and that it was a rental unit. He said he didn't know if anyone was renting the trailer.
