Three Sunshine Coast residents are sharing the $1 million they won by way of a Lotto 6/49 guaranteed prize draw on Oct. 3.
Carol Sawchuk, Brent Davey and Ronald Colpitts came forward to claim the $1-million prize on Oct. 8.
While Sawchuk’s name was on the ticket, she plays the lottery weekly with her co-workers Davey and Colpitts, so the prize was split three ways.
“I was sitting at my desk at work when I found out we won. I checked the ticket against the draw results and couldn’t believe what I saw,” Sawchuk said.
“I even turned off my computer and turned it back on again to ensure I had the correct draw results.”
Once she was sure she wasn’t dreaming, she called her co-workers to relay the news.
“Their first reaction was ‘what do you mean we won?’” a press release from Lotto 6/49 said.
“As for purchases with their portion of the winnings, everyone has a plan. Sawchuk will be purchasing a standup paddleboard and Davey is going to take his wife on a trip to Europe. Colpitts has a more practical purchase in mind: a riding lawn mower.”
The three friends also planned to get together for a dinner to celebrate their winnings, a Lotto 6/49 representative said.
Sawchuk, Davey and Colpitts say they’ll continue playing the lottery weekly and dreaming about winning a larger jackpot.
“You never know, we could be back in these offices after winning big by playing our regular numbers,” Sawchuk said after claiming her prize in Vancouver.
The Oct. 3 million-dollar guaranteed prize draw win came from a ticket the trio had purchased at the Trail Bay Lotto Centre in Sechelt.
