Gibsons council has awarded a janitorial services contract for municipal facilities to Master Care at a cost of $62,770.92 annually.
The decision was made during the June 3 regular meeting of council.
The contract award follows a competitive request for proposals process, the first such tender in several years.
According to Emanuel Machado, Gibsons chief administrative officer, the retendering was deemed appropriate due to facility additions and changes within the municipality.
Mayor Silas White introduced the topic by joking that Machado could take on the janitorial services because “he has a tendency to get his hands dirty as we've all seen.”
Three bids were received for the janitorial services contract, though one was deemed non-compliant. The two remaining proposals were described as "very reasonable" by Machado, with both bidders conducting facility tours.
Officials expressed satisfaction that either of the compliant bidders could have successfully fulfilled the contract requirements. However, Master Care was ultimately selected as the preferred contractor.
The janitorial services contract covers cleaning and maintenance duties at various town facilities.
The contract was approved unanimously by council without discussion.
