A tentative agreement has been reached between the District of Sechelt and its striking workers represented by the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU).

The agreement follows three days of bargaining with the assistance of a mediator.

Just after 1 p.m. Friday afternoon, the BCGEU sent out an email to its members with details of the agreement.

Highlights of the deal include: A three-year deal that expires Dec. 31, 2015. 1,000 pro-rated on straight time hours for current employees in the first year paid within two weeks of ratification. A wage increase of 1.5 per cent in the second year and 1.75 per cent in the third. The nine-day fortnight will be maintained until July 1, 2014. Temporary employees will be recalled.

BCGEU members will return to work on Monday, July 15. According to the BCGEU statement, the deal is subject to ratification.

We will have more information on ratification in the coming days, said Karen Tankard, BCGEU communications officer. We thank you for your ongoing support during the bargaining and mediation process.

Coast Reporter will have more details on this story in the coming days and in the on-line and print edition of July 19.
