More than four dozen students attended the Sechelt Hospital Foundation's open house to learn about the laboratory and local jobs.

The Sechelt Hospital Foundation held a laboratory open house on May 16 — and 58 local students attended.

School District No. 46’s career coordinator Cathy Gordon was impressed by the turn out. Gordon told Coast Reporter she has been trying for years to get students into the hospital to learn about relevant careers. When the foundation contacted her about their open house organized by lab supervisor Chantel Maloney, Gordon got to work promoting the event at the high schools.

On Tuesday, the students were given a presentation in the laboratory, “with the lens of different careers,” Gordon said. “The students really enjoyed seeing the equipment in the laboratory and hearing about the education needed.”

Then the group was given an added tour of the hospital. Gordon was quick to thank all who helped make the event possible.
