Photos: 10 Sunshine Coast students complete Youth Fire Academy

The second annual academy concluded with a demonstration of the cadet's new skills

By trial and fire, 10 more Sunshine Coast students have completed SD46's second annual Youth Fire Academy.

On March 25, in front of friends and family, the cadets demonstrated the skills they learned over spring break by putting out a fire in a burning building and by cutting off the roof of a "crashed" car to free a volunteer (retired firefighter Bill).

Several of last year's cadets went on to work in wildfire fire fighting and are pursuing careers in fire fighting.

Cathy Gordon, SD46's career coordinator, had a list of people to thank, from sponsors to volunteer grill masters to the involved fire departments of Sechelt, Halfmoon Bay, Gibsons and BC Wild Fire. In particular, she thanked Paul Bishop, the director of instruction for SD46, for his support of the academy.
