The Sunshine Coast RCMP detachment has announced the arrest of a man in relation to a break and enter at the Canadian Tire in ts’ukw’um (Wilson Creek), and are seeking witnesses.

At 4:05 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, the police were called about a break in at the store at 4380 Sunshine Coast highway. When they arrived, officers found a door pried open and  two locked cabinets shattered. Items taken included 20 MotoMaster, Certified and NOCO brand battery booster packs, as well as a Celestron telescope, Canvas outdoor string rattan lights, sleeping bags and a Lincoln electric wire feed welder, a press release states.

The next day, on Oct. 19, the police made an unrelated traffic stop. A local man was arrested, and a black pistol was seen on the driver’s side floor mat. Police noted the pistol looked like a Glock firearm but was an airsoft pistol later identified as one of the stolen items from Canadian Tire. The man was arrested and his vehicle seized. After obtaining a search warrant for the vehicle, officers found more stolen property.

The Sunshine Coast RCMP are appealing to the public for witnesses to the Canadian Tire break and enter. Video surveillance shows multiple people leaving the parking lot with shopping carts, and heading toward Sechelt on the highway. Police are also looking for anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area of Canadian Tire between 3 and 4 a.m. People with information about this event are asked to come forward and call the non-emergency line at 604-885-2266.
