Someone has stolen electrical cables from two ambulances in Sechelt.

In an Oct. 23 press release, Sunshine Coast RCMP said the cables are “essential to the daily operation of these vehicles to keep their computer systems charged and ready for use."

The ambulances were parked at the Sechelt Emergency Health Services station at 5494 Wharf Avenue when the cables were taken overnight between 10:30 p.m. Friday Oct. 20 and 1 a.m. Saturday Oct. 21, police said.

BCEHS told Coast Reporter the cables were being used to charge the battery of an ambulance and its heater. "Fortunately, paramedics at the station noticed the theft quickly and were able to use other cables available at the station to charge and heat the ambulance. There were no impacts to BCEHS operations or patient care as a result of this incident. We thank our partners at the RCMP for their assistance in this matter," the statement said, adding that there have been no other thefts at the station in the recent past.

The RCMP is looking for anyone with information about the two 100-foot cables or this offence. They are asked to call the department’s non-emergency line at 604-885-2266 regarding file #2023-7777.
