Totem Lodge and Shorncliffe Intermediate Care Home, two long-term care homes in Sechelt, closed on Jan. 24, and staff are transitioning to work at the new location.

The closure comes as 128 beds open at the new Silverstone long-term care location, which is operated by Trellis and contracted by Vancouver Coastal Health. Four beds will be used for temporary hospice.

Residents of Shorncliffe and Totem Lodge moved the week of Jan. 22 into the new location. The VCH Adult Day program will also move into Silverstone, as of Feb. 1.

In a statement, VCH said there may be increased traffic and reduced parking availability due to the move.

“The new Silverstone facility will enhance the resident experience with private rooms, bright open spaces, and views in every direction,” the statement read. “VCH recognizes change can be challenging, and we are committed to keeping residents, their families, and staff informed throughout this transition. VCH is working closely with the operator to ensure continuity of quality care for residents and that staff are also well-supported during this process.”
