Sherry Reid has been been appointed corporate officer by the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) board.

Reid is replacing Angie Legault, who left the SCRD in July to assume the role of corporate officer at the Cowichan Valley Regional District.

“We are delighted that Sherry has accepted this challenging and critically important role,” said SCRD interim chief administrative officer Mark Brown in a release. “We look forward to her leading the Legislative Services team.”

Directors voted unanimously to hire Reid at last Thursday’s board meeting. She started the position July 29.

Reid, who has worked at the SCRD since 2013, served under Legault as the deputy corporate officer, and was deputy chief election officer for the last two local government elections. She was serving as interim corporate officer following Legault’s departure on July 22.

With Reid’s role as corporate officer now permanent, Brown has been appointed interim deputy corporate officer until a replacement is found.

As deputy corporate officer, Reid provided guidance on process and procedures for board and committee meetings, assisted with Freedom of Information requests, the corporate records management program and bylaw drafting.

Before joining the SCRD Reid worked for the British Columbia Environmental Network, developed and directed education programs for BC Spaces for Nature and in 2012 she was contracted by the Town of Gibsons to create a feasibility study on street festivals.

Reid has a legal assistant diploma and bachelor of arts degree from the University of Ottawa, a certificate in local government management from the University of Victoria, among other certificates. She is also member of the National Association of Parliamentarians.
