Sechelt man killed near Vernon

Vernon RCMP is continuing to investigate a horrific accident that claimed the lives of four people, including a Sechelt man early Sunday morning. According to Cpl. Henry Proce, the motor vehicle accident occurred at 3 a.m.

Vernon RCMP is continuing to investigate a horrific accident that claimed the lives of four people, including a Sechelt man early Sunday morning.

According to Cpl. Henry Proce, the motor vehicle accident occurred at 3 a.m. just north of the intersection of Bailey Road and Hwy. 97 in Vernon. Three of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, the fourth died at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. The fifth victim, a female, faces severe, life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital in Vancouver. As of press time, she remained in hospital and no update on her condition was known.

"This is the deadliest accident to occur in the Vernon area in recent memory," said Proce in a press release. "For reasons unknown at this time, a 2002 Chrysler Neon was apparently northbound in the southbound curb lane of Hwy. 97 and struck a southbound Neon head on. The northbound Neon had only the sole occupant while the southbound vehicle had four occupants."

The driver of the first vehicle has been identified by police as Scott Johnathan Mann, 25 of Coldstream. The driver of the second Neon was Keith Rollinson, 32 of Kelowna. His wife Janet Aileen Rollinson, 28 is the injured party in hospital. In the rear seat were Krystal Lyn Meen, 20 (Janet's sister) of Squamish and her friend Dallas John Hein, 25 of Sechelt.
