As student enrolment continues to increase, School District 46 is initiating several strategies and innovations to attract and retain staff.

Efforts were outlined at the Sept. 14 school board meeting

The student population has risen 10 per cent in the past five years, from 3,160 students in Sept. 2017 to 3,507 students in Sept. 2022.

The school district's initiatives include 30-hour education assistant positions, piloting two full-time Teacher Teaching On-Call (TTOC) positions, actively searching for housing and well-being initiatives.

Outside help has also been brought in to help identify additional strategies the HR report included in the meeting’s agenda states.

Full-time equivalent teaching positions have increased and thirty-nine new employees have been hired (and counting) since July 1. The numbers of teachers retiring and leaving have also risen, with 77 employees leaving last school year.

More than 90 employees were hired in the school district last school year.
