Scouts receive honours

On March 15, two Venturers from the Sunshine Coast were presented with their Queen's Venturer Award parchments at a ceremony at Government House in Victoria.

On March 15, two Venturers from the Sunshine Coast were presented with their Queen's Venturer Award parchments at a ceremony at Government House in Victoria.

Gareth Forrest and Spencer Carson of the 1st Gibsons Venturer Company earned the award - the highest youth award in scouting, through their hard work in many areas including leadership, citizenship, volunteering and community involvement.

In addition, the earning of this award is recognized in B.C. with four credits towards secondary school graduation.

The presentations were made by the Speaker of the B.C. Legislature, the Honourable Bill Barisoff, in the absence of the Lieutenant Governor.

In addition to the ceremony, all Queens Venturer Award recipients spent the night at the Empress Hotel. The following morning they were transported to CFB Esquimalt Naval Base where they were transported back to Vancouver in style aboard the coastal defence vessels HMCS Brandon and HMCS Yellowknife. There were a total of 55 recipients in British Columbia and Yukon.
