Sombre and lower key Remembrance Day ceremonies were held at the Sechelt and Gibsons Legions on November 11. Similar scaled-back events were held in Madeira Park and Roberts Creek. COVID restrictions limited the events to key Legion volunteers, veterans and invited guests with no parades or gatherings in the Legion halls afterwards.

Gibsons Branch 109 president Wilma Jones said the gathering was even smaller than anticipated following Saturday’s public health order. “[Veterans] were calling in and unable to be there,” said Jones, adding it was the oldest veterans who opted out for safety reasons. “For them, it was probably quite poignant this year because for once they were not able to attend.”

Branch 140 Sechelt president Bill McLean told the small gathering at the Sechelt Legion that having to cancel the usual ceremony and get together was "a small sacrifice for the greater good."
