Sunshine Coast RCMP say they may be performing DNA analysis of blood left at the Roberts Creek Legion after it was broken into just hours after Remembrance Day ceremonies took place on the site.
The break-in occurred shortly before 4 a.m. on Nov. 12. One window was smashed out and one of the exterior doors was damaged during the incident.

“A suspect or suspects forced their way into the building and tried unsuccessfully to get into a liquor cabinet before fleeing the scene prior to police arrival,” Sunshine Coast RCMP said in a release. “Nothing appears to have been taken. Some blood was left at the scene, as well as a grey Hurley brand baseball cap.”
RCMP Const. Harrison Mohr, who had led the flag-bearing colour guard at the Legion’s Remembrance Day ceremony, called the crime “shameful.”
“Breaking into a Legion on any day is low, but breaking into a Legion on the night of Remembrance Day is really a shameful deed, and is an act of outright disrespect to our veterans and to those who serve our great country,” Mohr said.
“The suspect involved will likely have injuries to their hands or arms, and is believed to have worn a grey Hurley hat. We’re asking people to come forward with any tips about this break-in, so that we can quickly identify a suspect and help the Legion – and the community – to be at peace again.”
Along with possible DNA testing of blood samples found at the scene, the RCMP said it was “pursuing further avenues of investigation.”
