Sunshine Coast RCMP have arrested a male suspect in connection with multiple reports of sexual assault, which occurred in Sechelt and the Town of Gibsons, between Jan. 24 and 26.
The RCMP are recommending five charges of sexual assault against a 28-year-old man from New Westminster, B.C., said a Feb. 4 press release.
The suspect was located and taken into custody last week following an investigation. The man has since been released from custody with a pending court date and conditions to not attend the Sunshine Coast except for that court date, said the Feb. 4 release.
The RCMP say they are unable to release the man’s name at this time, pending the charge being approved.
Police said in a release last week that they would like to extend their appreciation to the brave individuals who quickly came forward to report these incidents. Their courage has been instrumental in advancing the investigation. "We recognize how difficult it can be to report these types of incidents and we commend the strength of those who have shared their experience,” said Staff Sgt. Jennifer Prunty.
