Sunshine Coast RCMP are urging residents to be extra cautious when dealing with strangers after several incidents of theft and suspected fraud this week.

On Sunday, Oct. 26, police were made aware of three separate break and enters in Sechelt.

"An unknown male entered the unlocked houses, and once he noticed somebody was in the house, attempted to enter into conversation with them. He left soon afterwards," said Const. Heidi Jones. "A theft occurred in one of the circumstances; thefts did not occur in the other two circumstances."

On Monday, Oct. 27, police were notified of a possible fraud that targeted a woman in Gibsons.

"She reported that she had received a phone call from an unknown male who stated he worked for Revenue Canada and she was the recipient of recovered money from a discovered fraud ring," said Jones. "The male, calling from a blocked number, stated he could attend the female's residence with the cheque. The female immediately suspected the call to be fraudulent and ended the call.

"With the holiday season fast approaching, we want to remind everybody to be extra cautious when dealing with strangers. Do not let strangers into your homes, and remember to ask for proper identification."
