Police seek public's help with ID

Sunshine Coast RCMP are hoping the release this week of photos of clothing recovered from Merry Island will help them identify the female victim.

Sunshine Coast RCMP are hoping the release this week of photos of clothing recovered from Merry Island will help them identify the female victim.

Last week police confirmed that the human remains found late last year on Merry Island were those of a female.

"We have confirmation from the coroner services in Vancouver that the bones found on Merry Island have been identified as female," said Sgt. Gerry Webb last week.

"We now have a DNA profile and will be comparing the profile with missing females in an attempt to identify her."

A lighthouse keeper on Merry Island found the remains Dec. 30, 2006. The remains consisted of a partial spine, pelvis, leg bones and some attached skin and flesh. In addition to the remains, clothing items were located including long pants, tattered cloth that may be a T-shirt or blouse and a sock.

If you can identify the clothing or have information that can aid police in their investigation, you are asked to call the Sechelt detachment at 604-885-2266.
