As Sears Canada winds down its operations across the country, the owners of the last remaining Sears outlet on the Sunshine Coast have announced plans to sell to new owners, and continue business under the RONA brand.
In a press release this week, Lorene and Lyle Hagedorn said they’ve struck a deal with the owners of the Coast Builders RONA locations in Madeira Park and Sechelt, Russ and Tess Jones.
The store on Shaw Road will switch from Sears to RONA branding on Nov. 14 with a full transfer of ownership to follow next February.
“We are pleased that the Hagedorns will provide their ‘hometown service’ in the short term and officially join the Coast Builders Team on Feb. 26, 2018 as the managers of RONA Appliance & Design Showroom by Coast Builders,” said the release.
The release also said an announcement will be made soon about the provision of warranties to customers with existing Sears Protection Agreements.
The operators of the former Sears location in Sechelt were already in the process of switching to an independent appliance and mattress retailer when Sears announced its first store closures in June. They’re now operating as Sunshine Coast Appliance and Mattress Experts.
