Nature photography will be the topic of discussion at the first meeting of 2009 for the Sunshine Coast Natural History Society (SCNHS).

Local photographer Rand Rudland will be the guest speaker at the meeting set for Friday, Jan. 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt. Non-members may join the SCNHS at the meeting.

Rudland studied biology and forest ecology at UBC and after graduation, he completed medical training at UBC and McGill. As a medical doctor, he spent 27 years in rural general practice on the Sunshine Coast, as well as numerous short term locums in Nunavut, Churchill and several small towns in B.C.

He is a skilful photographer using various advanced standard digital camera or digiscoping techniques. Digiscoping is a procedure of attaching a digital camera to a spotting scope to obtain images of very distant objects.

In his current presentation, he will give a slideshow and a commentary on the scenery, flora and fauna found in various northern and southern locations of the Western Hemisphere.
