A 50-year-old Sunshine Coast man was airlifted to hospital in Vancouver Wednesday morning after a serious collision on Hwy. 101.

Sunshine Coast RCMP and paramedics responded to the accident on Hwy. 101 near Leek Road in Roberts Creek just after 10 a.m.

Const. Jason Bouwman said the motorcycle driver's injuries were of a "serious nature."

"One vehicle, a 1968 Dodge Charger, was travelling north on Hwy. 101 and the motorcycle was heading south," Bouwman said. "Another vehicle was making a left hand turn at Leek Road and waited for the motorcycle to pass him. The second vehicle came over the crest of the hill and there was a head-on collision."

Bouwman said police are still investigating and getting witness statements together.

He said the lone occupant of the vehicle, a female driver, was not injured.

Traffic was tied up along the highway for about an hour as police investigated.
