Mahlman moves in light of retirement

Cedar Grove Elementary School principal Dave Hunt recently announced his retirement, causing School District No. 46 (SD46) to take another look at administrative assignments in the district for the 2012/13 school year.

Cedar Grove Elementary School principal Dave Hunt recently announced his retirement, causing School District No. 46 (SD46) to take another look at administrative assignments in the district for the 2012/13 school year.

That second look led to the assignment of principal Kerry Mahlman to the Cedar Grove position. Originally Mahlman was slated to start as principal of Madeira Park Elementary School this September, which leaves that position vacant now.

Superintendent of schools Patrick Bocking said the move made sense for Mahlman.

"It's more central for other duties that she has and we've also been very careful to make sure that she has the support there to enable her to make sure she is able to carry out both her Aboriginal education duties and obviously the principalship of Cedar Grove," he said.

On June 20, Bocking was at Madeira Park Elementary School meeting with parents and staff to explain the change and find out what qualities are important to them in a new principal.

"Of course, Kerry wasn't at Madeira Park yet, so it was a shift of a name. We'll look forward to getting a great principal in for Madeira Park so they're well supported by a principal as well," he said.

SD46 said in a news release that they hope to have a new principal in place for Madeira Park by mid-July.
