Mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 13, at 7 p.m. for a gala concert. The gym at Elphinstone Secondary School will come alive with the sounds of some of the finest performers on the Sunshine Coast.

The evening will feature selected student performers from the school, as well as a special performance by Sarah Loverock and her Band.

"I've tried to put together a variety of music mainly from the Grade 12s who have been involved in our many talent shows over the years," says Tom Daniels, teacher and sponsor of the event. "Many of these students are moving on to post-secondary music programs elsewhere, and we thought it would be nice to give them one more performance of a highly professional nature."

Leading off the evening will be the Elphinstone Jazz Band under the direction of Janice Brunson.

Skye Wallace will fill the individual performer category with her spine tingling vocals and self-accompanying guitar playing. "Skye has one of the more incredible voices of any young performer I have heard," Daniels said. Also performing will be Stramash, an acoustic group consisting of James Law, Graeme McGillivray and Sophie Heppell. These talented musicians have honed their skills on a variety of instruments through their many years performing with the Coast String Fiddlers and the Elphinstone music program. They have one of the more distinctive sounds of any group on the Coast and will surely be a crowd pleaser.

Filling the need for volume will be Kings of Rock, a newly-formed rock group within the school this year consisting of Cody Stevens, Joel Miller-Tansley, David Williams and Kevin Hendricks. This group of talented musicians performs with the confidence and ability of seasoned performers.

While the first half of the program alone will be worth the price of admission, the second halfpromises to be even more exciting. The feature act, Sarah Loverock and her band, will perform a selection of tunes guaranteed to have hands clapping and feet stomping. "Sarah and I have been talking for a few months now how it would be great to have her do something at the school during one of our shows," said Daniels. "Sarah, as did most of the members of her band, performed regularly at the school talent shows as they went through Elphi, and it is quite thrilling to have them perform here again as a professional group."

The Sarah Loverock Band will perform a 45-minute set to finish off the evening.
