Linda Lorraine Howe, charged with 10 offences including three counts of attempted murder in connection with the alleged shooting March 31 at Christenson Village in Gibsons, will see her case go directly to trial in Vancouver Supreme Court.

Howe made her latest court appearance, appearing by video link from the Surrey pre-trial centre on July 16 in Sechelt provincial court.

According to Crown counsel Trevor Cockfield, Howe, through her lawyer, consented to go straight to trial in Supreme Court without having a preliminary hearing.

Howe will appear in Supreme Court in Vancouver on Sept. 16 to fix a date for her trial to begin, most likely for sometime in 2010.

Howe allegedly shot Christenson Village employee Kenn Perrier when Perrier and other employees knocked on her suite at the care home to begin to transfer her to another facility.

After the shooting began, Howe made her way down the hallway of the facility and out the front door, where she commandeered a car and started to drive out of the parking lot as police arrived on the scene. Howe was shot by RCMP, bringing an end to the stand-off.

The investigation into the police actions during the incident is nearing completion according to senior media relations' officer Sgt. Peter Thiessen. Victoria police have been acting as observers during the investigation.

A separate investigation by Vancouver Coastal Health and Christenson Village is also ongoing.
