The Sunshine Coast Highway was closed temporarily at noon today, Aug. 1, after reports of a downed power line near Halfmoon Bay.
The closure caused the cancellation of the 12:13 p.m. #4 Halfmoon Bay bus from Trail Bay Centre, but just an hour later, the highway reopened.
Karla Louwers, spokesperson for BC Hydro, said they received a report of downed lines this morning, with very few other details.
“It was impacting the highway in the Halfmoon Bay area, so our crews responded, but the fire department was first on the scene,” says Louwers. “When we got to site, we confirmed that it was actually a Telus line, not hydro, so we just made it safe for the highway to reopen.”
Louwers says while this situation ended up being of little concern, it’s always a good idea to call BC Hydro at 1-800-BCHYDRO (1-800-224-9376) or 911 if you see any downed lines.
“And, we’ll get those experts on site to assess the scene as soon as possible.”
