October proved, once more, to be a time of thanksgiving at Happy Cat Haven. Thanks to constant, daily fundraising, Happy Cat Haven is presently able to have a secure outdoor enclosure built.
According to Violet Winegarden, this area will enable most cats, including those in their adoption room, to feel grass beneath their feet and hide under a shade tree if they wish.
"Then, too, as there are always wonders happening on our Sunshine Coast, in mid-October, Robert Mortlock of Pacific Home Improvements, came by bringing his usual donation of cat food and asked me to make a wish list," Winegarden said. "That took about five minutes, and he left with a nine-item list. The most urgent carpentry needed was a cover over the recycling area in our front yard where volunteers Lori Edwards and Joanne Laansoo, in all weather conditions, sort and carry off the cans and bottles that, thanks to the community, collect there."
According to Winegarden, when Mortlock told Leroy McLellan, of Gibsons Building Supplies in Sechelt, his plans to help Happy Cat, McLellan decided to do what he could regarding the price of lumber.
"The cover is in the making, and tomorrow, no matter how hard it may rain, boxes of bottles, etc. will not be weighed down with rainwater, and our volunteers will not be drenched as they do the grimy work," Winegarden said. "Other than giving many, many thanks, what more can we say to the community of the Sunshine Coast?"
